Coming Soon To A Theater Near You

A photographic challenge I have been unable to meet is to get a still pic that demonstrates how the waves really look out there. For some reason the 2-dimensional images never have the same impact of being there; or, when the waves are really rolling, I am unwilling to hold the paddle with only one hand while I get out the camera. When I do go for it, the shutter lag on the Optio makes it hard to catch the peak action. Enter, stage left, JB and his wonder rig.

After much research and many hours pouring over This Is The Sea DVDs, JB has gotten himself a video rig that sits out on the fore deck of his kayak. I know he has taken many minutes, if not hours, of action; but we have seen none of it. This rig, in my judgment, offers a real opportunity to catch some winter seas and to convey to the viewer what it actually looks like out there in the weather. So, John, let's see what you've gotten so far :) ...or, are you waiting for a huge reveal at Canoecopia?

Paddle safe...

Patience !!!!

The problem with video is that it needs to be edited, which means learning a new skill (and program). And, it requires free time, which I don’t seem to have much of.

But, there’s some footage in the can for winter editing. And, I’m sure there will be some more footage to add soon too.

And now that Oz knows that the thing she tripped over in the basement isn’t her Christmas present (and she is thankful for that as she had no idea what it is, which is why she brought it up at Thanksgiving dinner I guess). That “thing” is the deck mounting for the waterproof housing for the video camera—I tried to explain it to her, but . . .

Now the pressure is on! Shouldn't be affected by the writer's strike, but perhpas I can use that as an excuse as well ;))

Good luck with this new rig, John! Editing in video production is almost everything (next is the fewest compression steps), I've come to understand having tried playing in this area myself. I look forward to seeing what you come up with as much as Dick does.
